Evaluation of eBook...

I think that I have performed quite well and I personally consider my eBook a success. I learnt a lot during its creation about myself and the way I work. I have also improved my web development skills immensely.

The process of producing the eBook was made much easier when I started to use Macromedia Studio 8. Before I purchased it, I was writing and editing the raw code in notepad or in Microsoft FrontPage 2003. This was a lengthy process which I found very boring and unpleasant.

The quality of my work improved a great deal when I got to grips with Dreamweaver 8 and Contribute 3. I was able to make my eBook much more interactive and I even captured video footage and used Flash 8 Professional to include it in my eBook. I would thoroughly recommend this software to anyone who is going to create an e-book, however simple. Without this software my ebook would be not be anywhere near the standard that it currently is.

I believe the eBook has many good points, more good than bad. I am really happy with its structure. It is very systematic and easy to follow. It is laid out in a logical order and is easily navigated. The navigation system consists of a drop down menu as well as an ordered sequence. This system is able to take the user straight to the section he/she would like to view. I also think that the way it is structured helps the reader build a clearer picture and have a better understanding of the information age. I am also very fond of the general appearance of the eBook. Its simple yet sharp presentation feels nice and clean and the fonts used are clear and consistent. Other students have commented on how professional my eBook looks. The bibliography is extensive and provides readers with many sources of further study.

However, I do believe that I could improve a number of things. Firstly, I would use a lot more Flash and make the navigational system more interactive. This would make reading my eBook more exciting and give the it a more ‘dynamic’ feel. Secondly, I would include more original multimedia components. Sadly, I was unable to include any more due the very restrictive 15MB size limit. For example, I would have conducted video interviews with different people, giving the reader more insight into what living in the information age is really like.

Below is a table showing you what I think of the different aspects taking into account the feedback I have received from others, especially through the questionnaire:
